Innovative individuals convene to discuss the prospects, obstacles, and future trajectory of Australia’s technology sector.

We’re thrilled to be a member of the Tech Council of Australia and as part of their annual National Tech Summit 2024, we hosted a panel:

💡 TECH TALENT FOR THE AI ERA: Building Diverse Teams That Drive Innovation 💡

Featuring:
Roisin O’Neill, Head of _nology Australia
Tim Allen, National AI Skills Director at Microsoft
✨ Sanford Sham, Head of Technology at AGL
Gemma Toogood, Head of Partnerships at _nology

🔍 As AI reshapes industries, building a tech workforce that reflects our diverse community isn’t just about diversity—it’s a strategic imperative.

Research suggests that to stay competitive, at least 20% of a tech workforce should come from non-traditional talent pools—those with diverse lived experiences and distinct professional skills. But how can leaders effectively implement these changes to drive innovation and create smarter, more resilient organisations?

The Tech Council of Australia ensure that the Australian technology industry has a trusted voice to represent it. They advocate for the conditions tech companies need to grow, attract investment, and create jobs across a range of critical industries to shape Australia’s digital future.

As the technology sector undergoes rapid transformation, having a workforce that mirrors the wider community has become increasingly essential. Being a prominent figure in tech education and talent development, contributes extensive expertise to the TCA in generating fresh talent pools and alternative routes into the industry.

We were delighted to have our very own Roisin O’Neill, Head of _nology Australia, and Gemma Toogood, Head of Partnerships, present on this panel. The session touched on strategies for companies to align their hiring practices with the goals of sustainable innovation and business development.

Thank you to our amazing lineup of panelists who offered actionable insights for tech leaders and hiring managers around building a tech workforce for the future.

From our Head of Partnerships Australia, Gemma Toogood – “My fellow panellists were super generous with their time, and candour. The audience was too: listening and engaged – it made the whole discussion feel like a group of people keen to challenge the status quo💜”

Our expertise in creating alternative pathways into tech aligns perfectly with our goal to reach 1.2 million tech workers in Australia by 2030. And our strategy is in complete harmony with the TCA’s mission to promote diversity and tackle the skills shortage within the Australian technology sector.
