The Challenge
Goldman Sachs had plans to launch a new Engineering office in Birmingham and needed to hire and build it out quickly. We were a core part of their strategy to introduce new engineering talent into the new office. They were struggling with finding diverse tech talent, and specifically wanted to address their low level of Black employees.
Characteristics of our Solution
We provided diverse tech talent through our open programmes – we run ongoing training courses to allow everyone the opportunity to learn to code on their own terms. From the open programme graduates, we found individuals who were willing to relocate to Birmingham to work with Goldman Sachs.
We have a pool of high-quality Engineers who are open to working across the UK, having completed one of our coding courses. They’ve all been trained in Java and Cloud Engineering skills, which were necessary for the roles available at Goldman Sachs. We’re able to offer rapid deployment of job-ready technologists due to this ever-growing talent pool, an aspect of our solution that was hugely effective in terms of the timeframe of this project.
Three of our consultants interviewed with Goldman Sachs through their standard process and passed with glowing feedback – a notably exceptionally high standard to meet. We assisted with the consultants’ relocation to , as well as ongoing support from our Consultancy Management team at every stage of the process, from interviewing through to onboarding and employee wellbeing.
Outcomes and Benefits
We were able to provide Goldman Sachs with a selection of diverse junior tech talent in a location that was proving difficult to hire in. They hired a Black female consultant and two male consultants who had joined our open Java and Cloud Engineering training programme before being placed in a full-time role.
Goldman Sachs also benefitted from a reduced time to hire – we were able to operate far above their typical interview to placement ratio, meaning they spent less time and resources recruiting. They were able to choose from a diverse pool of talent ready to be deployed at pace, and our ability to support the transition with a relocation package sped the process up considerably.
They also knew that the consultants they hired would be job-ready and would add value from day one due to their oversight of our training curriculum. Our consultants are trained in Java and Cloud Engineering, meaning they were already aligned with Goldman Sach’s technical needs – they were then able to choose three consultants who were also a great cultural fit based on our recommendations.
